John Sterrett is a Microsoft Data Platform MVP, MCSE: Data Platform, CEO and Principal Consultant of Procure SQL LLC. Previously, he was a Sr. Database Admin Advisor for Dell, directly responsible for several mission-critical databases behind dell.com. John has presented at many community events, including PASS Summit, MS Ignite, SQLRally, 24 Hours of PASS, SQLSaturdays, PASS Chapters, and Virtual Chapter meetings. John is a leader of the Austin SQL Server User Group and the founder of the High Availability and Disaster Recovery Virtual Chapter. John has also taken on the task of putting together a #SQLSaturday in Wheeling, West Virginia ..yes we will give you a second to look that up.
John received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Oklahoma. He is a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist in SQL Server 2005 and 2008. He lives with his wife Nina, sons Gregory (aka #BabyBeluga) and Samuel.
He also enjoys following the Pittsburgh Pirates (Yes, this update is after the Pirates traded the whole team), meeting new people, traveling, playing golf, wallyball and volleyball.

What is your favorite thing about teaching this session?
It is really helping people understand that building an HA Solution is not as hard as they might think. I love being able to help people implement a solution that makes their lives a lot easier and have a lot more freedom, all the while giving their business a great tool to keep them highly available.

Only YOU control your career. Good mentors can be more important than your actual job; they can help guide you and get you where you WANT to be in the long-term”
If you could go back and change the career path that lead you to where you are now would you? “He would go back in time and be a famous Rapper! The real answer is HELLZ NAH, he wouldn’t change a thing, unless that Rap career panned out!
